The main reason stated in the article for foreign policy is to show off American military power. In the article, Bacevich talks about how freedom has undercut the United States’ ability to fulfill its commitments. Later in the article, he says that freedom in the United States is a reason to fight the long war to preserve the American way of life. I don’t think there is a way out of forever wars because most countries, when in their in wars, won’t give up. So most countries will fight to the death and if its a back-and-forth war, its just going to continue until one loses the war.
