The understanding of Freedom at home or abroad.

The article discusses how we prioritized the safety of our homeland over abroad and how we view events like 9/11. It also gives us an idea of what the Department of Defense was trying to protect us from by creating the Homeland Security Act and its different levels of terrorist acts, so that our people are prepared for what might happen.  There a qoute that I like and how it states the how we view things that we should of think of why this event happen and created away that we would be in a war called long war, “ Recalling how Wasgington saw the post-Cold War world and America”s place on (or atop) it helps us understand way the poikicu makers failed to anticipate, deter, or deflect the terrorist attacks of Spetember 11,2001.” (pg. 3- 38) that this quote was a good viewpoint and how we should view things nowadays, since it might happen again, by more dangerously with nuclear weapons.  This article also discusses how we as a country are so focused on military muscle, then expecting that fact that we should not be getting invoved in wars that we don’t need to be involved with in the first place.  There’s another quote that I like, and it talks about the way we just take action as a country instead of stopping and listening. I quote “impulses that have landed us in a war of no exits and no deadlines come from within. Foreign policy has, for domestic ambitions, urges, and fears.” (pg. 4- 38)  Another thing about this article it talks about the power and abundance, and we use it to benefit the right choice for our country and countries abroad that need our help. In the way that we just rush to help them receive power and a new life for their people an dhave ther own government and also trying to be the prefect police of non dictatorship that we as a country lose focused on the task at hand and which is the people at home and how they use there power or abundance. I quote “ In the years that followed, the United States achieved remarkable success in making good on those aims. Yet never during the course of America’s  transformations from a small power to a  great one did the United States exert itself to liberate others-absent an overriding perception that the nations had a large security or economic interests  stake.” (pg.11-38)  I think this was a good article to do a blog post on and how we can view things on the 9/11 attack and the quotes can represent the issue that we are still dealing with in today world and that fact that we don’t just and think before jumping to war that we don’t to be in right now and how it can relate to the problems that we still need to fix now and the Future generations.

  1. Great post! You highlighted some important points from the article, especially how the U.S. often reacts with military force without fully considering the consequences. The quotes you chose really show how 9/11 shaped our view of security and war. I agree that we need to focus more on understanding why events happen, not just reacting, so we don’t repeat the same mistakes, especially with today’s bigger risks like nuclear threats.
