I think that pastor Jerry Falwell was instrumental in forming the Christian Right. He was very concerned about the Ronald Reagan ideals of Christian life, even though he had never grown up being a Christian before. He also thought this would be a way that he could get the Christian rights activist vote for becoming President of the United States of America. He also had something common with him in his mortality, with Ronald Reagan being on his side. But he was also primarily concerned with social issues that were formed from the 1980s and their view on this right for Christians. A quote from the article “ Falwell envisioned his church as an instrument of socetial uplift for rural whites, who were only one generation removed from poverty.” ( pg 8-24) His mind on his political view has changed since the ruling on no payers teaching school. Furthermore, his values in certain areas of the Republican Party also change, and was they hei no longer wants to be on their side of the champion win over the Democratic party. A another quote form the article “ The political values of Falwell’d paralleled those of many other sunblet suburbanites, who were becomunung increasingly concerned about the crime rates, drug use, and teh cost of welfare, and who embraced a poltical ideology of private proper rights, tax cuts, and moratdte racil coversatism that many Republican politician championed.” (ph13-24). So I believe that he at first that though he was doing the right thing at first. Then suddenly he realized that the Republican party was doing adn how it affected him as he was in that solution of moving to a sunbelt state to look for a job or work at church and gather people around to share his opinion. He also had a way that he thought he found something in common with the Republican party, and how it changed. He also protested against the proposal of a nuclear freeze and federal aid to the freedom fighters and against communism. This was his view on the Cold War from 1945 to 199. I think that he made a good choice to move on to the Democratic party and how they were supportive of small business, and he was also welcomed into the semoertic community with a warm welcome. A final quote from the article that found interesting about his change of mind of moving away from the Republican party to the Democratic party is that “ The alliance between Christian conservatives and teh GOP that Falwell helped to create was thus ont merely exercise in poilticla oppperunism, but was instead the result of shared pouitcial ideology that reflected the experiences of particular region.”( pg 19-24) so I think this was a good article to read, and it had good points on the topic that we still have to fix in today’s world. It also brought a good aspect to this topic, showing it can shape the future and how it can be changed so that we can learn form the past so that it does not repeat itself.
