I think that he argues for the split over Vietnam in the late 1960s and early 1970s because of the people in the country and how they believed that war was winding down but instead, it was continuing to go on. It also has the impact of the anti-war protests on college campuses and people in different twins or cities that believe that we should not get involved in it in the first place. There are also different percents in the article and how he argues about the war in Vietnam and the split at home. In the article, “The Democratic National Convention, poll found that even those who opposed the war opposed the protesters. (pg 7)” “ In one survey, 75% of respondents places “Vietnam War Protesters”. (pg7) So I agree with what he is saying adn how the war has an impact at home and how it split into two different standards. One is pro-war and the other is a con to war and how it affects the working class and the community that people live in. The article also talks about what the press was doing and what they were covering for a new store. The way Penny Lewis argues this store against Elite doves is a good way to view both sides of the story and how it can tell a story about what people thought about the war back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The thing that surprised me was the way people called the communication field back then in our ordinary American history adn how it talks about middle America and how to deal with the split between war adn anti-war. It also exposed the violence that we young people have and how it affects the Chicago area and it people that live there with different backgrounds. It also mentions the mass media cover has entered that period where things were being covered into new stores.it also shows some aspects of what the military service is and how complex it felt to the soldiers that were drafted or enlisted to go over there to fight for our country in Vietnam. It also brought the people’s attention back at home to what their American soldiers were doing over there adn how it started the anti-war protest and the people picking sides live hawks and doves which we learned in class during our lectures. I think this article i read gave a good aspect on the split of the Vietnam War and how the people in the late 1960s and the early 1970s dealt with it adn how it can tribute to your family heritage and how it can be an important topic that some people aren’t ready to share their stories. So this topic of Vietnam and how it can be somewhat of our history that we as children or teenager or young adults learn a little bit of it in our early years of school but when you get to college you get to expand your knowledge on this topic.
