Cold War Economy

In the Heefner article, it states that Dwight Eisenhower had a system of defense highways to provide efficient moving of large military supplies and personnel. Many of those defenses went into the western plains of South Dakota. What the military-industrial complex is like the relationship between a country’s military and suppliers. South Dakota was a big supplier of military weapons. In the article, it states that South Dakota was a crucial part of the Cold War but it was also invisible to other countries and built the defense or deterrence for the Cold War. I think the silo is still up because the Cold War was such a big part of our history and South Dakota ended up playing a role in the Cold War. I also think it is up because it shows what our history is and how we ended up doing things domestically and the silo is used as a symbol for us growing for our history.
