a virile creed, full of hopefulness

“Our starting point is not the individual, and we do not subscribe to the view that one should feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, or clothe the naked…Our objectives are entirely different: we must have a healthy people in order to prevail in the world.” This was the purpose of eugenics… it was to help cleanse the society of “hereditary” traits that people carried: over sex drive, alcoholism, homelessness, poor, etc. Eugenics was like a really extreme form of a techno-fix that leaders felt were necessary to create a perfect race.

Eugenics societies started to pop up in the industrial world. These eugenics societies would take people in and perform sterilization and different procedures and then release the people like wild animals back into their natural habitat. People involved in these eugenic societies believed that “racially inferior and poor” were dangerous people. Not only were they dangerous but they were a financial burden to the society. During the time of World War I, Germany was facing a serious economic issue and these rose a division between the “valuable” and “unproductive” creating an embedment into the public minds that this the right thing to do.

I was watching the Purge the other night (spooky season) and the concept behind the purge is to allow people to cleanse their souls of hatred, lower the crime rates and to reduce the “unproductive” population. Eugenics is the same concept. Being aware of the science that occurred does help the society to be aware of the danger’s science can have.
